Breastfeeding Clinics

At breastfeeding clinics, a feeding assessment is provided by an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). There are two types of breastfeeding clinics in Halton:

  • Hospital Breastfeeding Clinics (OHIP covered)

  • Private Breastfeeding Clinics  (some are OHIP covered with a referral)

Hospital breastfeeding clinics

Most of the hospital clinics require you to access the services where you gave birth to your baby or where your doctor or midwife has privileges. If you had your baby outside of Halton and would like to go to a breastfeeding clinic, you usually need to return to the breastfeeding clinic at that hospital.

Private breastfeeding clinics

Private breastfeeding clinics are open to anyone and charge a fee for service. The fee at a clinic is generally less than having a private home visit with a lactation consultant.

*Some breastfeeding clinics can also be covered by OHIP if you have a referral from your health care provider. Contact the clinic for further information.
