Halton BFI Policy
| How to get
involved
Composition:
The Halton BFI consists of professionals and consumers
who live and or work in the region of Halton.
Membership is open to anyone who is interested
in promoting the Baby Friendly Initiative.
Structure:
- Members of the Halton
BFI will appoint two co-chairs, two co-treasurers
and a coordinator for a two-year term. Co-chairs
and treasurers will attempt to change over in
alternate years to enable the succession process.
- The Halton BFI is an
independent arm of the Halton Maternal Infant
Care Coalition (HMICC).
- Formal communication
will be maintained between the Halton BFI and
the HMICC through the co-chairs' representation
on the HMICC and regular attendance at HMICC
meetings.
Advocacy:
The Halton BFI will mobilize public opinion in
support of the baby friendly initiative by using
a social norming approach and celebrating successes
whenever possible.
Quorum:
For a member/organization to be deemed active
they must have attended 2/3rd of the meetings
over the last year. Active member status will
be reviewed at the Annual General Meeting so Quorum
can be determined for the following year. 50%
plus one makes quorum based on Active member status.
Decision-Making:
- Opinions of committee
members will be solicited prior to decisions
being made.
- Full and frank discussion
by all members will be encouraged.
- The Halton BFI will
try to achieve consensus in decision making
however in cases where consensus cannot be achieved
a majority vote will be used.
- Each member organization
will have one vote.
- Individuals not affiliated
with an organization will have one vote.
- Quorum must be met.
Time Commitment:
- The Halton BFI will
hold working meetings every month.
- The meetings will not
exceed two hours in duration.
- Meeting locations may
vary.
- Working groups may meet
on an as needed basis according to work plans.
- An Annual General Meeting
will be held yearly in the late fall.
